Case Study, When Trim Has Say-So

We had hoped to paint this cute cottage cream with black trim. Why didn’t we?  Because there’s little trim on this house the awnings effectively become trim.  Imagine three black rectangles (awnings) against the face of this small house.  Oppressive, right?  Also, note the various sizes and uneven spacing of the windows, and imagine how black against cream would point this up.  Finally, black awnings would hold heat to the western facing windows.

Therefore we listened to the house, made the trim light, and painted the body a softly contrasting color, in this case, muted yellow.  The door is inclusive to the nandina plant, which has bright red berries and fall foliage.
